Your members value what they see.
You need need strong policies and bylaws and the will to implement them in an objective way. By recognizing roles and responsibilities of being a Board Member. If decision making isn't at arms length, minors are put at risk.
Boards are providing a service to minors, that is your business model.
By leaving problems without a resolution or intervention, associations miss opportunities for simple remediations.
Associations need to show that they value change, objective decision making, education for all their members, youth voice and strong leadership.
Decision-making needs to be objective and ethical with the minor children in your care top of mind. If you don't address concerns and supervision of your staff and volunteers:
Your association will lose revenue.
Your association will have an unhappy membership.
Your association and board members become vulnerable and open to liabilities.
Every decision needs to be around fostering leadership that keeps the kids psychological safety top of mind. From that foundation stems increased revenues, winning mindsets, team success, love for the game for the next level or generation of hockey players.
