🏒 Changing the Stories We Tell Ourselves
Sometimes when someone says something mean—like a bully at school or on the ice—it can start to feel true, even when it isn’t. You might think, “I’m not good enough” or “I don’t belong.”
Here’s the secret: those are just old stories. And just like in hockey, we can practice new skills until they become strong.
📍 Point A → Point B
-
Point A: “I’m not good enough.”
-
Point B: “I am capable and worthy.”
Getting from A to B doesn’t happen in one big leap. It happens the same way you get better at hockey—by practicing little things over and over.
🏒 How to Practice New Beliefs
-
Practice Your Weak Side
Just like shooting on your “wrong” side feels awkward at first, new positive thoughts might feel weird. Keep practicing anyway. -
Take the Reps
Every time you remind yourself “I’m learning and growing,” it’s like taking another shot at the net. The more reps, the stronger the belief gets. -
Gather Evidence
Notice the small wins—maybe you made a good pass, helped a teammate, or stood up for yourself. Those are your “goals” that prove the new story is true.
🏆 The Win
Even if it doesn’t feel real at first, practicing positive beliefs will make them stronger. Just like in hockey, effort turns into confidence.
You are more than the words of a bully. You are a player, a teammate, and someone worth believing in.
